WhatsApp is one of the most popular chatting app with over 2 billion active users. WhatsApp connects us with several people. There are two different types of WhatsApp chats that helps manage masses, the WhatsApp community vs group.
Here in this blog we will see, what separates WhatsApp community from WhatsApp group.
1. Number Of People
WhatsApp groups give a lot of people access to converse with each other from an organization. Initially WhatsApp gave 254 members to make a group later the number of maximum members was increased to 512 and 1024.
But in WhatsApp community, the admin of groups can put his similar groups under a community. A WhatsApp community can have 50 groups or 5000 members.
2. Messaging
In terms of messaging, WhatsApp groups and WhatsApp communities works differently.
WhatsApp allows members of a group to discuss among themselves, if allowed by admin. If you are a part of any WhatsApp group you must have seen that any group member can send a message in the group.
But for WhatsApp communities the authority of messaging is a bit different. WhatsApp communities are primarily meant to provide updates regarding a topic to other groups. WhatsApp allows admin of the community only to send a message in the community.
Members of the community can not directly send message or reply to the admin’s message in the community. Rather members can respond to the message in their particular groups.
3. Privacy
Privacy of both the WhatsApp group and WhatsApp communities are different.
If you are a part of any WhatsApp group, you may have noticed that you can check the contact information of other members in that group. Any member can save the contact number of other members and even message them.
This may be concerning of other members.
But in WhatsApp communities, it is not the same case. If you are a part of a WhatsApp community you can not check the members of the community directly. Rather you can only check the members of that particular group only, which belongs to the community
4. Other Features
In WhatsApp groups, apart from messaging there are a lot other features too. You can send media files like photos or videos. You can conduct surveys by creating polls. Links to external sites can also be sent in WhatsApp groups.
But since WhatsApp communities are meant mainly for updates across the groups, the features are limited.
Only admin can send a message across the community. But no member can send a particular file or poll or link in the whole community.
5. Calling Feature
Like messaging, WhatsApp also allows members of a group to connect through voice or video calls. WhatsApp allows a maximum of eight people to start a video call. Members can also pause the video and send a message in the group.
But like messaging, calling feature is restricted for WhatsApp communities.
Expand Your Connections
Both WhatsApp groups and communities helps in making connections. But WhatsApp groups are for more mutual discussions. In WhatsApp groups any one can chat and interact with other members.
But in WhatsApp community only the admin can send updates in the community. Members can not interact among themselves in the community.
Both have merits in their sense. You must check your requirements before making a WhatsApp group or a WhatsApp community.
