When we do not need our keyboard for long time and there are chances of it getting pressed accidently. Or if your are using your laptop and there are children around, locking the keyboard is just the option for you.

You can again unlock the locked keyboard by pressing some key combinations or using 3rd party software. But what if you can not unlock it back?

1. Check The Key Combination

Depending on the manufacturer of your keyboard or any 3rd party app you use, your key combination can vary. Do check out what exactly the required key combinations are for your keyboard or app. You can check for the key combination by Googling it or visiting the official manufacturer website.

Another way that worked for some people is enabling on-screen keyboard and then locking the screen. To enable on screen keyboard, try pressing Ctrl+Win+O and then press Win+L.

Or you can simply go to settings and search for on screen keyboard.

2. Check Whether Your Keyboard Is Working

If you are pressing the right combination of keys and still it is not unlocking, the problem can be both software or hardware related.

First try to check out where the keys in your keyboard are working properly or broken. And your keyboard is powering up or not. They best way to check it is cleaning your keyboard and replacing the batteries.

If the problem still continues, you can try to connect your keyboard to some other computer can try. If the key works, the problem is software related, if it doesn’t it is hardware related.

3. Update Drivers

If your keyboard drivers become old, your keyboard may not run properly. You must check out to update the driver, to update follow the given steps.

  1. Go to settings, and search for device manager.
  2. See the keyboard section, and right click on your keyboard name.
  3. Click on update the driver.
  4. Select search automatically for drivers.

If the above does not work for you. Go to the manufacturers website and download the latest driver.

  1. After opening the device care, right click on your keyboard and select update driver.
  2. Select browse my computer for driver and install the driver you downloaded.

4. Disable Sticky Keys And Filter Keys

Sometimes people can not use some keys in their keyboard because of sticky and filter keys. You can try to turn off the sticky and filter keys and try again.

To turn off sticky and filter keys, go to settings and search for ease of access for keyboard settings(windwos10). And Accessibility>Keyboard (windows11). And toggle off the sticky and filter keys.
