Windows 11 lock screen widgets

Widgets appeared on the lock screen since the recent Windows 11 update and now seemingly displays the current weather, top headlines, sports, etc. Besides being invasive, it appears quite pointless, especially having to lock the window which is normally seldom stayed on. If you don’t fancy these widgets and want a clean lock screen, follow the simple steps and turn off these Windows 11 widgets.

How to Remove Lock Screen Widgets

While widgets may be helpful, they are not fun when they appear where they are not required like; the locked screen.

To remove them from the lock screen, use the Win + i shortcut and navigate to the Settings app, then to Personalization Lock Screen. Right-click the dropdown next to your Lock Screen Status and then choose None from the options that come out.

If you prefer not to get bored with the lock screen having no updates, you can select an alternative app to use the widgets. Some of the available options include Xbox Console Companion, Weather, Calendar, Mail, and Dev Home.

How to Customize Lock Screen Widgets

There is no option to either enable additional cards to show or disable the ones that show up when lock screen widgets are turned on. But they can be beneficial if tweaked to display the information that is useful.

Customize the Weather Widget

To personalize the Weather widget, it can be invoked by pressing the Win + W key on the keyboard to bring up the widget menu. Next, tap the three-lines icon located in the top right corner of the weather card to expand more choice. Here, there is a toggle option for switching between Celsius and Fahrenheit while displaying measures in degree.

To do it at an even higher level, in the menu, choose Customize Widget. You can then navigate away to another place by clicking on the home icon beside the location in the top bar.

In either case, you can look for another city or a place and enter it into the options.

Getting Region and Language-Based Updates

If you have the lock screen which displays updates of the applications in the widgets and you want it to be of a different region or language, you can adjust it too.

To switch the language, click on the Win key + i and select the Settings option, and then go to Time & Language > Language & Region. Under the Language drop down near Windows Display Language select another language on the list offered.

In case the language of your preference is not in the list, you have to type it and click on the Add a Language button, which lies beside the Preferred Languages. Select one of the languages listed and then continue the process by clicking on the Next button.

Last of all, click Install to start the installation process – if there are some languages, it can take sometimes to install them. You also need to access the internet on your Windows computer as it contains the language files that can be downloaded.

To change the region, you can go to Region and look for the arrow button beside the Country or Region field. Then, wash and click on another region or country from the list of options on the game.

It will continue to fetch the related updates depending on the selected region and the language.

Luckily, you aren’t compelled to use the lock screen widgets alone. If you do not want the applications to appear on the lock screen, there are two options available; you can select another application to show on the lock screen or you can completely disable the lock screen. If using products above, we may choose to keep lock screen widgets, and the customizing it will also enhance lock screen widgets though the options are few.
